
The Gainesville Leopards baseball team finished third at the Bells Tournament over the weekend.
Gainesville (4-2-1) started the tournament Thursday with a 7-7 tie against Frisco Lone Star.
Gainesville led 7-1 going into the sixth inning, but Lone Star rallied with one run in the sixth and four more runs in the seventh.
Dillon Schroeder finished with 3 hits including a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs for the Leopards, while Denzel Johnson added 2 hits and an RBI. Chance Sikes and Dillon Aston also drove in runs.
Sikes and Aston both had two stolen bases, while Johnson, Tag Sparks and Landon Bond all had one.
Sikes pitched all seven innings and finished with six strikeouts.
On Friday, the Leopards lost to Dodd City 6-2.
Four errors doomed the Leopards. Dodd City used a four-run third inning to take a 5-0 lead. It was 6-0 before Gainesville scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Dillon Aston and Rocky Salazar both doubled for the Leopards. Collin Sikes had a pair of stolen bases.
Gainesville came back and defeated Bells on Saturday in the third-place game.
The Leopards outhit the Panthers 8-4. Denzel Johnson and Landon Bond both had a pair of hits. Tag Sparks and Dillon Schroeder each doubled, while Schroeder had 2 RBIs, and Bond and Hunter Hall both added one.
Bond pitched all even innings to get the win. He allowed only four hits.
