
The Gainesville Leopards varisty and junior varsity cross country teams started the 2011 season at the Frisco ISD Invitational Saturday at Warren Park.
In the varsity boys division, Gainesville finished 16th as a team with 431 points. Plano East was first with 63, Dallas Jesuit was second with 85 and Plano was third with 154.
For Gainesville, Evey Puente was the top runner. Puente finished 71st with a time of 19:00. Also for GHS, Giovanni Carranza placed 84th (19:29), Cale Kennedy was 100th (20:07), Richard Bean was 104th (20:18), Link Ferch was 105th (20:24), Ervin Bean was 127th (21:14) and Hunter Goldsworthy was 151st (23:18).
In the junior varsity boys division, Gainesville placed 14th with 364 points. Plano West was first with 21 points, Jesuit was second with 68 and Plano was third with 145.
For the GHS JV, Terry Hall placed 60th (21:24), Ismael Castaneda was 77th (21:59), Michael Sanchez was 90th (22:16), Jacob Goldsworthy was 119th (22:56), Mitchell Case was 179th (26:27), Ricky Mendez was 198th (29:08) and Keeton Kiser was 208th (37:01).
The GHS cross country teams will not be back in action until Sept. 10 when they compete in the Southlake Carroll Invitational at Bob Jones Park in Southlake.
