The University Interscholastic League released its bi-annual realignment this morning.
For the next two years, Gainesville High School will compete in District 9-3A along with Bridgeport, Decatur, Krum and Sanger. It will be the first time the Leopards have been in a five-team district in many years, if ever.
"I'm really pleased about it," Gainesville athletic director and head football coach Lance Gary told KGAF radio this morning. "I'm kind of scrambling around because were in a five-team district so now I have to pick up an extra game."
Former district opponents Whitesboro and Pilot Point dropped down to 2A, while Argyle and Aubrey moved to 10-3A along with Ranchview, Celina and Frisco Lone Star.
Gainesville's non-district football schedule will reportedly include Iowa Park, Burkburnett, Ardmore (OK), Springtown, Lake Worth and Vernon.
