DJ Harris hit a shot off the glass as time expired in overtime to lift the Gainesville Leopards to a crucial 42-40 district win over the Whitesboro Bearcats Tuesday at the GHS gym.
Gainesville is now 18-7 overall and 3-1 in district play. The loss dropped the Bearcats to 3-1 in district as well.

But Whitesboro answered with six-straight points to grab the lead.
The Leopards had the chance to win the game down the stretch, but missed free throws came back to haunt the home team. Denzel Johnson did make one of two free throws in the final minute to tie things 36-36 and force overtime.
In the extra stanza, Gainesville took an early lead on a drive by Moore, but Whitesboro answered with a 3-pointer by Matt Hobbs. A layup by Jonathan Mendez put the Leopards back up 40-39, but Whitesboro hit a free throw with 45 seconds remaining to tie things up again. Gainesville held the ball for the final shot, calling a timeout with 10 seconds remaining to draw up the final play.
