
The Gainesville Lady Leopards dominated the Whitesboro Lady Cats 50-19 Tuesday night to remain in the thick of the race for a district championship in 9-3A.
The Lady Leopards have now won 13 of their past 14 games.
Gainesville (19-7 overall, 5-1 district) held Whitesboro to just one basket in the first half while building a 27-5 halftime lead. The Lady Leopards led 14-5 after the first period, then outscored the Cats 13-0 in the second period. Brittany Royal hit a 3-pointer in the second-period run, while Zhanice Lane added a bucket and Annette Kirk, Kaitlyn Romans, Kiarah Manuel and Ariannah Kemp all added free throws.
The lead grew to 36-6 early in the third quarter before Whitesboro finally got their second bucket of the game nearly 3 minutes into the period. But Royal answered with her second 3-pointer and Gainesville rolled to a 43-12 lead after three periods.
The Lady Leopards continued to push their advantage in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 33.
Whitesboro is now 0-6 in District 9-3A play.
Freshman Brittany Royal had 16 points to lead GHS, while Ariannah Kemp added 14, Kiarah Manuel added 9, Zhanice Lane had 6, Annette Kirk and Destini Flowers both added 2 and Kaitlyn Roman scored 1.
