
The Gainesville Lady Leopards girls basketball team closed out the first half of District 9-3A play in style Friday with a 34-23 win over the Aubrey Lady Chaps at the GHS gym.
Gainesville is now 18-7 overall and 4-1 in district.
The Lady Leopards came out strong, scoring the first five points, but only led 9-6 after the first quarter. The teams played mostly even ball in the second period with Gainesville taking a 17-13 lead into halftime.
Aubrey outscored the Lady Leopards 8-6 in the third quarter to pull within two, but Gainesville dominated the fourth period, holding the Lady Chaps to just two points.
Ariannah Kemp led Gainesville with 15 points, while Kiarah Manuel added 12, Brittany Royal had 3, and Zhanice Lane and Annette Kirk both added 2.
The Lady Leopards will start the second half of district play Tuesday at home against Whitesboro.
