After a long 5 game weekend, the Gainesville Lady Leopards soccer team hit the road again Tuesday night to play Princeton High School and came up victorious by a score of 4-0.
Most of the first half was spent passing, moving and controlling the half while working as a team. The Lady Leopards were able to move the ball very well, using through balls to our forwards that led to a few breakaway attempts. After missing a few shots, the girls were finally able to break free with a Marisol Chavez goal with 29 minutes remaining in the half. Rubi Saenz had the assist and it was Chavez's 7th goal of the year. The defense held strong as well, only allowing 1 shot in the first half.
Gainesville's offense came out strong and fast in the second half scoring twice within the first 6 minutes of the game. Whytneigh Duffie scored both goals, one by using her speed and skill to beat the Princeton defense and the other came from a great pass from Selena Espinosa. With 10 minutes left in the game, Duffie beat the defense again and passed the ball across the goal where Nerieda Puente was able to get the 4th goal of the game.
The Princeton offense wasn't able to get passed the midfield line due to the superb defensive play by the Lady Leopard midfield and defense. It was a great team effort throughout the entire game on both offense and defense.
The Lady Leopards are now 5-1 on the season and will play Cleburne HS on Thursday afternoon in the Bear Cave Classic Tournament in Fort Worth.
